Our Nice Red Giordano Umbrella

Yesterday... i gave our nice Red Umbrella away.

As i was parking just outside church today, i saw an old Indian man get out of a taxi. A part of his umbrella came of and he had difficulty getting out of the taxi... due to bad legs. I tried to quickly finish parking so i could help him pick up that piece of his umbrella that had come off. As i finished to park, he had staggered out of the taxi... and the taxi (unknowingly) reversed over that umbrella portion damaging it permanently. I went to the old Indian man and offered our umbrella. He didn't want to take it at first... but in true humility, he agreed to take it when I said that I can easily get another one.

We will have to get a new one soon because it's the rainy season.

This isn't the actual umbrella, but it sure looks like it.

Man: I switched from driving to riding an E-Scooter (electric scooter) because it's environmentally-friendly.

Lady: But it emits more toxic fumes than your car.

Man: What do you mean?

Lady: Look behind you!!

Man: {turns around to see his E-Scooter on fire due to over-charging}

Pereira Road, is just a little road off Upper Paya Lebar Road. But I'm probably not related to whoever it's named after.

Does anyone know the origins to the name of this road?

Or at least to where I can get info about it?

Women's Passaggio ~ 1st G above Middle C on the Treble Clef

This 1st G above Middle C, for me, this is where the Passaggio is for most of the women I've met and it did not matter if they were Altos or Sopranos. Time and time again, I've noticed that whenever women have to cross this G, the quality of their voices will change. Not all women, but a significant number of them is enough for me (and a few others) to notice.

I came across this again just yesterday (Sun, 2017 Oct 08). We are talking about the S2 or the part marked as '2nd Soprano on top' in the Last Bar. Although this was sung by Altos, with untrained singers the same thing will happen to either Sopranos or Altos.

In the Last Bar, after the rest, did the A-note and the G-note using their Chest Voice and Change to Head Voice going up to Bb resulting in a change of quality in their voice.

The change of quality was because they did nothing to make the Chest Voice and Head Voice sound the same quality. In other words, they did not go into a Mix Voice (Chest Voice + Head Voice). And they did not do it because they did not know how to do it.

I was attracted to this GIF of 'Hanging Socks Out To Dry'.

Reminded me of...
Don't wash your linen in public.
Do not wash your linen in public.

And yes, I am not going to 'wash your linen in public' as it is neither 'yours' or 'mine' and this has nothing to do with dirty 'linen'. It's about somebody else's retirement plans that I feel is not exactly for me, but it does help in the planning. Every one of you will have your own idea oh how you want to plan your retirement. There is no right or wrong because all plans have their risks and this plan below is just as risky although more on the safe side. But not planning is the worst thing that you can do. Please have some form of planning & it's good if husbands and wives can agree on some form of plan.

I want to start a family. Does having
children change my retirement plan?

Congratulations! And the short answer is yes.

Text by Mark Tay

Speak with a professional financial planner from Manulife Singapore to find out about ideal plans for you and your family.

So you and your partner have been thinking about having kids for a while, but you aren’t entirely sure how plans change once you have an addition to the family. Well, the good news is that you’re not alone. It’s pretty tough to plan every detail of the life journey with a child involved because there are many things to consider ( like if you might want to give them the best shot at possibly pursuing their passions in an extra-curricular activity ). That said, here are four non-negotiable changes in you and your partner’s lives that you’ll need to consider.

1. RETIREMENT AGE
You need to be clear that having a child means supporting them till they are old enough to start working and earning their own keep. In the context of Singapore, that will be when they are about 25 years of age. Knowing this, you’ll need to be realistic about the age you actually can stop working, which may end up being a little later than you initially planned. For example, if you have a child when you’re 35, you’ll probably need to keep earning money till you’re 60).

If you start planning early (like now), there are financial and insurance instruments available that may help you build up your wealth, but you have to be aware that there are risks involved. That way you might still be able to kick back and relax at a slightly earlier age, if you so choose.

2. FAMILY INCOME
You’ve probably already had this conversation with your partner because whether one of you is planning to stop working and take care of the child makes a big difference to how much the family will be able to spend and save. However, plans sometimes do change so both you and your partner should still work towards building up a contingency fund of about six to 12 months of your combined income. This will ensure there’s a sufficient buffer in case one of you decides to stop working for a period of time after your child is born.

3. EDUCATION
It’s important to remember that when you’re planning for your child’s education, you’ll need to carefully take into account prevailing inflation rates in Singapore. This is because a large amount of your child’s education fund will be spent on his or her university studies (which will be around 18 years away) so the number you’ll be faced with might be significantly different from the one you just Googled the other day. If you’re looking to enroll your child in private institutions, even higher costs will be incurred.

But because you’re thinking about it now, you have the opportunity to plan the right steps on just how to build that education fund. Check out this handy Education Calculator to get a better sense the amount you’ll need.

4. ASSURANCE FOR THE FUTURE
You obviously want the best for your kid (which is why you’ve read up to this point), so consider whole life insurance policies. These insure your children for their entire lives (once the required premiums are paid) and also some come with annual cash returns (until the policy is terminated). In essence, if you’re able to afford the premiums for such a policy, it can give your child yearly returns all the way through to their retirement. However, as always, a conversation with a professional financial planner regarding this, as well as the other points above, will definitely help shed some light on what is the ideal plan for you and your family.

The Story of 9 x 1 = 7 ~ by unknown sources

.

The Story of 9 x 1 = 7
~ by unknown sources

One day a school teacher wrote on the board the following:

9×1=7

9×2=18

9×3=27

9×4=36

9×5=45

9×6=54

9×7=63

9×8=72

9×9=81

9×10=90

When she was done, she looked to the students and they were all laughing at her, because of the first equation which was wrong, and then the teacher said the following;

I wrote that first one wrong on purpose, because I wanted you to learn something important. This was for you to know how the world out there will treat you. You can see that I wrote RIGHT 9 times, but none of You congratulated me for it, But you all laughed and criticized me because of one wrong thing I did.

So this is the lesson:

The world will never appreciate the good u do a million times, but will criticize the one wrong thing you do... BUT don't get discouraged, always rise above the laughter and the criticisms. Stay strong.

Note also that rising above the laughter and the criticisms is Mother Teresa's idea of Humility.

SINGAPORE - She was a nurse for six years, caring for children and new mothers. Three years ago, Ms Hazel Sim took her love for children one step further by becoming a foster parent.
The 34-year-old, now working in sales, has already cared for three children under the the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s (MSF) fostering scheme. The scheme provides the care arrangement of children aged under 18 who are orphans, victims of abuse, or whose parents are unable to care for them.
Ms Sim’s first foster child had special needs. She cared for the eight-month-old baby till the girl returned to her biological family at the age of four. Ms Sim is currently the foster parent of a five-month-old girl and a two-year-old boy.
She and her husband Jackson Lai, 37, tried to have children of their own but have been unsuccessful. "For our family, we have nothing to lose but for these children, they have everything to gain," she said.
In this episode of Heroes Among Us, a video series that explores the lives of everyday people who rise above their circumstances, Ms Sim tells her story.

The MSF Fostering Service has helped over 5,500 foster children in the past 60 years. There are currently 420 foster parents caring for 430 children under the scheme.

Subject: Happy Valentine's Day 2017! ~ Our Prayer of Love for One Another

Dearest Wife,

Happy Valentine's Day 2017!

Here's a pray to see us through the rest of our journey together.
.
.

Our Prayer of Love for One Another

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing us together in marriage. Continue to bless us by helping us see the good in each other in spite of our shortcomings. Continue to help us love unconditionally. Protect us from all threats to this bond of Love that You have joined and let nothing divide us. Strengthen us as we go through our daily trials that threatens to break this bond of Love, and may both of us always come out winners in union with You. Keep it in our minds, our duty to Love each other at every chance we get. Help us realize quickly when we are wrong and to quickly seek forgiveness, and also for the other to forgive quickly even when the hurt is raw with pain because of Your Love. Bless us Father, that we may achieve Your Perfect Love.

Amen.
